How to Play

Run forward automatically through a three-lane track. Your job is to avoid obstacles and collect gems. Six obstacle types require different responses — jump over barriers, slide under laser beams, switch lanes around crates. Fail to react in time and you lose a life. You start with three lives.

Six Obstacle Types

Three are there from the first metre; the other three unlock as you get deeper into a run:

The challenge is that each obstacle looks different but requires identifying the type before you're close enough to react automatically. Learning to read them at a distance — recognizing each shape the moment it appears in the far part of your field of view — is the core skill in Path Runner.

The Gem Economy

Gems are strung along the track as you run, and each one banks 100 points. Collecting them serves two purposes: they add to your score, and they accumulate in a wallet that persists between runs. From the menu or the game-over screen you can open the upgrade store and spend them on seven permanent upgrades — Extra Life (500 gems), Magnet Range (300), Shield Hits (400), Head Start (600), Score Multiplier (800), Gem Value (400) and Lucky Power-ups (500).

The gem economy adds a resource management layer to what would otherwise be a pure reflex game. Players who collect gems efficiently — reading the gem trails early enough to line up the right lane, spending wisely in the store — last longer and score more than players who ignore gems in favor of pure survival.

Four Environment Themes

Cyber City Cyan and magenta rails, a deep blue night sky, holographic ads fading in and out overhead. The opening theme.
Neon Forest Green and lime rails, falling leaves and blinking fireflies. Arrives at level 3.
Space Station Violet and blue rails, floating debris, the occasional comet. Arrives at level 5.
Volcano Orange and amber rails, embers rising past you, a smoke-dark sky. Arrives at level 7.

The same obstacle patterns and procedural generation run under all four themes — the visuals change, the challenge doesn't. Levels are distance milestones inside a single run, so the world cross-fades around you as you get deeper: level 3 lands at 1,500m, level 5 at 5,000m, level 7 at 12,000m. Each theme creates a distinctly different atmosphere even though the gameplay mechanics remain identical.

Procedural Generation

Path Runner uses real-time procedural generation — the track is built ahead of you and destroyed behind you as you run. No two runs share the same obstacle sequence. The generation algorithm gradually increases difficulty across segments: early runs are spaced; later runs pack obstacles closer together and increase base speed. The combination means every session starts accessible and becomes genuinely demanding as it progresses.

Music and Sound

A speaker button sits in the corner of the screen during a run and mutes everything with one tap; the setting is remembered for next time. If you're playing in an environment where audio isn't appropriate, the game is fully playable in silence — the visual cues alone are sufficient to read obstacles.
