How to Play

The rules are the same as classic tic tac toe: players take turns placing their mark on the grid, and the first to form an unbroken line — horizontal, vertical, or diagonal — wins. A full board with no winner is a draw.

Game Modes

1 vs AI
Play against three difficulty levels — Easy, Medium, or Hard — on any board size
2-Player Local
Two players on the same device, each with a unique neon color and symbol
3- or 4-Player Local
Three or four players take turns in a fixed order — a green star and a yellow triangle join X and O. Works best on bigger custom boards where there's room to play
Custom Board
Sliders set rows and columns from 3 to 10 plus the line length needed to win — gives three- and four-player games more room to develop

AI Difficulty Levels

Three AI settings cover a wide range of players:

On the standard 3×3 grid, a perfect player can always force at least a draw against any opponent. The Hard AI is not that — it is a four-rule heuristic rather than a full search, so a well-set fork will still catch it. On larger boards, perfect play becomes computationally impractical anyway, which is where the strategic depth opens up for experienced players.

Board Sizes and Why They Matter

The classic game on a 3×3 grid has limited depth — experienced players will often draw every match against each other. There are two Board Size buttons — Classic and Custom — and it is behind Custom, where sliders set rows, columns and the line length needed to win, that the game gets interesting:

Three- and Four-Player Modes

Three-player tic tac toe changes the game's fundamental dynamics. In a two-player game, you can track one opponent. In a three-player game, you have to simultaneously block two opponents while building your own line — and the player who wins is often not the one who was "ahead" mid-game but the one who capitalized while the other two blocked each other.

Each player gets a distinct neon color and unique symbol — X, O, a star, and a triangle in four-player games. On larger boards, three- and four-player games develop more fully before the grid fills, giving each player enough room to pursue genuine strategies rather than just reacting.

Works on Mobile

The game is touch-friendly — tap a cell to place your mark, no drag or precision input required. The grid scales to fit any screen size. Local multiplayer on mobile works the same as desktop — pass the device between players for head-to-head matches without needing any internet connection.
