About Neon Snake 3D

Neon Snake 3D is a free 3D snake io game that runs in the browser on desktop, phone and tablet. You are a rookie light-snake, a string of glowing glass beads, entered in the Rookie Circuit: an arena league on a rain-wet rooftop high above a night city. Every round is a timed race against rival snakes to be the longest one in the ring when the bell goes.

If you have played slither-style snake games, the loop will feel familiar: free steering, orbs to eat, a boost that costs length, and rivals that burst into a shower of orbs when their head hits your body. Neon Snake 3D adds its own twist, the light-wake: boosting burns your length into a ribbon of light behind your tail that kills any head that touches it. The original grid game, Neon Snake, stays on the site in 2D.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the light-wake in Neon Snake 3D?
Boosting burns your length, and the tail lays it down as a wall of light. The light-wake stays solid for a second and a half and fades over its last moments. Any other snake whose head touches it bursts into orbs, but it never hurts you, so a boost is both speed and a wall you draw across a rival's path.
How do I grow and how does boosting work?
Steer over orbs to eat them: each one adds to your mass, and a longer snake has bigger beads but turns a little wider. Hold boost to nearly double your speed. Boosting costs mass every second and needs a little length to start, so it is a trade: speed and a light-wake now, for length you have to win back.
What happens at the edge of the arena?
The arena is ringed by a lit LED curb, not an invisible wall. Near it the curb flashes and the HUD says PULL IN. Touching it costs a fifth of your mass and bounces your heading back inward, and a snake that is too short when it touches the curb bursts.
What is Fever?
Eat twelve orbs within four seconds and your snake flashes pink: for the next six seconds every orb counts double. It is the nod to the combo meter of the original Neon Snake.
How are rounds scored?
A round runs on a clock. At the bell every snake ranks by its length. Your arena score adds ten points per unit of mass, points for every rival you burst, a bonus for your placing and a bonus for a round with no bursts. Finishing in the top three clears the arena and earns stars, and every round pays coins for the Garage, even a losing one.
Does Neon Snake 3D save my progress?
Yes. Your league progress, stars, best scores, coins, liveries, perks and best length are saved in your browser at every result card and purchase, and when you leave the page. Continue on the title screen picks up at the league map. A round in progress is not saved, and New League asks before it replaces your save.
How do I play on a phone or tablet?
Put your thumb down anywhere on the left side of the screen and drag: the snake turns toward the direction you drag, relative to the camera. Hold the BOOST button at the bottom right to boost. The pause button sits in the top corner. Phones and tablets use lighter graphics settings, and the glow is built into the snakes themselves so it still shows.
What is the difference between Neon Snake and Neon Snake 3D?
Neon Snake is the original: a 2D grid snake with four-way turns, species to unlock and power-ups. Neon Snake 3D is the 3D reboot in the style of a snake io game: free steering, rival snakes, boosting that costs length, the light-wake and a league of arena rounds. Both games stay on the site.
