The core mechanic is the classic breakout loop: move your paddle to keep the ball in play, clear all the bricks on the level to advance. You start with three lives. Lose a life each time the ball falls below your paddle.
- Desktop: Left/right arrow keys move the paddle; Space launches the ball and fires lasers.
- Mobile: Drag your finger left or right anywhere on the canvas; quick-tap to launch or fire.
A normal brick is worth 100 points, an explosive brick 150, and an armored brick 250 when its second hit lands. Clearing a full level and moving to the next keeps your ball and your paddle power-ups — momentum carries forward. Layouts are hand-designed, thirty of them, and no two look identical.
All 11 Power-Ups
Power-ups drop from destroyed bricks. Most help, two hurt, and one is a gamble. Catch them with your paddle to activate — paddle effects stay with you until you lose a life:
Widens your paddle — makes the game significantly easier, and stacks if you catch more than one
Your paddle fires upward lasers that destroy bricks directly — useful for clearing stubborn clusters
Turns the paddle to steel — every bounce charges the ball faster, and the fifth sets it on fire so it burns through an extra brick
Spawns a second paddle — doubles your coverage at the bottom of the screen
Inverts your left/right controls — the second power-up that works against you, and the harder of the two to play around
Splits the ball into multiple balls simultaneously — the biggest scoring opportunity in the game
Places a temporary catch net below your paddle — one free save before it disappears
Narrows your paddle — dodge this one if you can. Its tile is red, so you have a moment's warning
Any ball that touches the paddle sticks there until you press Space or tap — free re-aiming, and it lasts until you lose a life
Triples the ball's radius so it ploughs through several bricks at once — lasts until the level is cleared
Strips every active effect back to a plain paddle and ball — a rescue when you're shrunk or mirrored, a gamble when you're buffed
The key to high scores is keeping Multi-Ball active as long as possible while using the Safety Net to avoid losing lives during the chaos. Multi-Ball can clear an entire level faster than anything else.
Teleporter Stages
From level eight onward, some levels switch on teleporters. The top teleporter is a glowing strip across the top of the screen: a ball that would have bounced off the ceiling passes through it and reappears at the bottom instead. The paddle teleporters let your paddle run off one side of the screen and come back on the other, so the edges stop being walls. Teleporters add unpredictability — they can save a ball that's heading for the gutter, or send it somewhere unexpected. In Endless mode both types stay on permanently, so learning to anticipate them is part of mastering the later levels.
Difficulty Progression
Levels 1–2 seed three to five power-ups to ease you in. From level three that drops to two or three, and from level six it's one to three — and choosing Hard at the start thins Grow, Laser and Multi out of the pool so you have to earn every advantage. Brick layouts get tougher as levels increase too: armored bricks that take two hits appear from level four, explosive bricks from level five, and indestructible steel from level eight. The difficulty ramp is gradual enough to learn on but steep enough to push experienced players.
Tips for High Scores
- Prioritize Safety Net when your lives are low — it's worth more than any offensive power-up when you're down to one life
- Let Multi-Ball run naturally — don't panic when balls multiply. Track the lowest one and let the others hit bricks on their own
- Dodge Shrink — every power-up tile is color-coded, so check the colour before you lunge: red is Shrink, and violet Mirror is the other one that makes the game harder
- Use Laser on upper corners — stubborn bricks in the top corners are the last ones left at the end of a level; Laser clears them without requiring precise ball angles
